Well thought out, well written and concise. County taxpayers already fund the Public Guardian's O ffice whose role is to put people into court supervised conservatorships when shown they are a danger to themselves, as well as others.
That is where new funds need to be re-directed and not into Homeless Inc, who think success is growing the problem which in turn protects their owl well-paid jobs. Yesterday was a success but cops are out today sweeping items. BUT that was just one day. This week we definitely need consistent eyes in the park looking out for RPD and IVPD movement - we've already seen cops out today removing items.
So if you have free time in the mornings or afternoons, post up in the park and keep an eye on the situation. DM us if anything alarming starts up. Make more posters and attach em to those repulsive cyclone fences. Defend it! Let's tear this down by starting with their "solid turnout" for the protest.
The even more hilarious side to that is they had to bring people up from skid row in Los Angeles to even get that 30 people! Of course, then there's the "IVPD" mentioned, you know, those scary cops they want to abolish. About that "strong showing" they mention and how effective it was, not very effective if the popo's "removing items" from the "houseless neighbors" in that sty. This is a lie because if they had such a "strong showing", why are the cops "removing items"? Then there's that thing about the "powers that be deciding to not make a move in the park" which is also a crock of crap.
The park staff was out there making sure things went smooth, there was no backing off. They're ineffective too on so many levels that it is just amusing! When I saw this statement on their page, I laughed so much my sides hurt. Instagram activism at its best and the best part is it's free! Pack up and leave. Free ride is over. It's a free country Dump did not win not everyone is wealthy like some of you many are veterans as long as they don't make trouble or break the law or mess things up they should be left alone.
If any of you were in their place you would be camping too.. Anybody else feel like Edhat should have a character limit? That would eliminate the need for more than characters! Edhat does allow pictures. But they also edit their website. I should elucidate but dinner awaits. Johnson, you seem to be more interested in inflaming the situation than assisting in ameliorating it. Time to send an entirely new message - pack up and get gone.
Triage: the have nots; the can nots; the will nots. Social safety welfare system is not sufficient to take care of the have nots, unfortunately. It needs to be expanded. Can nots, yeah, the ACLU with disagree with that, but I agree we don't do enough for the can nots as it is. Will nots I don't know the answer to the will nots, except to attempt to force them into treatment of some sort. If they refuse, then Somewhere else? The desert? I mean, they don't cease to exist - they end up being someone else's problem.
Those with mental issues need more than someplace to stay, they need treatment and often physical help. That leaves those the social welfare system was designed for. The work part would send them scurrying away from the area like light sends cockroaches scurrying. Where the 3 Will Nots end up is their problem; not ours. Jail or get gone. Businesses and UC Santa Barbara UCSB campus resources are reopening with increasing capacity, and students are restoring vibrancy to their college town.
But, this joy comes at a cost for a population that continues to be left out of the conversation — the chronically unsheltered homeless of I. With the push to restore I. When the emergency shelters close their doors to people experiencing homelessness in our community this summer, will they go back to being invisible, or will we take action to permanently meet the needs of our homeless neighbors? Many people in Santa Barbara have shirked the responsibility of addressing homelessness to neighboring counties or the state under the assumption that when COVID hit last March, people would flock to encampments in I.
However, this is a false assumption that ignores the locality and complexity of the issue. The emergence of I. According to Emily Allen; the director of the homeless initiative at Home for Good — United Way; and Wade Volk, the psyche director at Showers of Blessings, Santa Barbara; there has always been some seasonal movement of individuals experiencing homelessness to Santa Barbara, but this migration of people was not responsible for the large, novel encampments that emerged in the last year.
County data and pallet shelter intake surveys reveal that about 80 percent of people experiencing homelessness in I. Point-in-time counts from and reveal that the total number of people experiencing homelessness — particularly in vehicles — had been increasing in the years leading up to the pandemic and continued to rise throughout This data contradicts the belief that the novel encampments in I.
This information affirms that I. Emily Allen; local volunteers; Gina Sawaya and Joanna Le Goulledec; and local business manager, Sky Texier, all hypothesized that the primary reason encampments emerged in I. Regarding chocolate and vanilla, chocolate syrup on vanilla ice cream works for me every time. They are using IV rec Dep land. We are already paying Marburg for quite a few porta potties in the tent village next door.
Communication expenses??? What kind of communications are they setting Up? They already have free internet set up there? No, this is classic government waste.
I guess it justifies and perhaps even creates! I agree with Duke. The math on this is crazy. The cost of the Pallet shelter themselves while lower than some competitors is questionable to begin with. Look at similar sheds on Home Depot - you can get them for half the price, or less. We could rent them all luxurious AirBnBs for that price. We are evaporating taxpayer money. Google it if you don't believe me. I think it's time to look into larger, more long-term prefabricated structures for the unsheltered and to place them on land that is neither coastal high-cost, nor in demand.
We have a huge state and most of our population is in very small corridors. And what they really need is addiction and mental illness treatment. But that is darn near impossible given the Lanterman Petris Short Act. And moving these people around given the 9th circuit ruling that we must offer them alternate suitable accommodation or else you can't kick them off public property makes it additionally impossible to do anything about this growing problem.
LADY: The frustration being voiced stems from the fact that many people work hard, sometimes more than one job, to support themselves and their families.
Then you have this other group of people, many of them young, able-bodied and completely uninterested in being responsible members of society. Are severely addicted people suffering from mental illness and should they be hospitalized? They are lawless, often fighting with each other and stealing, though they know it to be wrong.
They simply do not care. Effectively the additional costs go to pay for cooks, clean up services, assistants, etc. Project - not just buildings. It's like playing "telephone" reading these comments. What a crazy crazy Project!!!! I'm hopeful that there are community bathrooms or outhouses with washing areas set up for them as well. If this is a great start, what are you hoping for next???
Many have no contact with family, if any. As you sit in your warm home, giving thanks for all that you have, it is the time of the year to think of others less fortunate that you. We don't know their stories and how they got where they are, but they are human beings, and it would be kind of you to think of their situation in a more compassionate way than criticizing them or the tiny shelter they are being offered.
Can you change your thinking to "How can I help" instead of pointing a finger?? Food for thought. This won't solve anything - yet more will come for the benefits. Building these tiny homes and only 20 of them at that will NOT bring in more homeless people, but it might just help a few get back on their feet. Just drove through Portland or. They allow homeless to take over. It was tent city. All along the freeways and from what we say they were able bodied stoned kids that the taxpayers are paying for.
Enough is enough and no this is not a political statement. My friend owns a business up there. They use his land as a bathroom. Break into his business and steal things and this is ok? But what is the solution?
How are these 20 folks being chosen?
