Normally, I would also look at updating a busmastering and IDE controller, but latops generally don't have anything real special to cause these kind of errors. After that, unfortunately, the best way to fix this is by reinstalling windows.
You shouldn't have to reformat just install on top of what you have. The part with the directory you're referring to is that there's so many dependencies in there, that you'd make yourself crazy trying to find them all. Good luck to you Mark.
