What have you used for a cam lock tool? Great question. I'll all need one eventually. RMinNJ Active member. Natesriv Lead Foot. CAM lock?? Last edited: Apr 11, Twin cams it's a must. Gerry rigged usually my way verses a special tool. Bit of a masochist i guess. Reznic New member.
The Russian way?? Wonder if this tool would work in it's place Reznic said:. So I did some digging. And I found the right tool. And yes it's basically the same as the eBay page. Freedom racing has them. Two versions, one plastic for I opted for the plastic one. I ordered it today and it will be here tomorrow. FYI my timing belt has k on it and it still looks new. No dry rot and nice and pliable. Let everyone know how it goes.
I don't even have a 1. Its probably not that hard.. I've seen too many friends with ruined engines because they keep putting off the timing belt because of the expense. The right tools make all the difference. So even though I am having a local shop handle the replacement job I have been scouring over the docs that I have. It appears the timing belt goes in between the motor mount ears and does NOT need to be removed.
Had I payed attention to this it would have made a nice weekend project. So the shop called and the sonic is done. Not to bad. Not too shabby at all. Crankshaft bolts are typically thread-locked and torqued between ft. An impact gun can usually remove the crank bolt, but the pulley may still need to be held in place.
Before installing the belt, compare the new one with the one that was removed and make sure they are the same size with the same number of teeth. Being off even a half tooth on some engines will be enough to cause trouble and means the job needs to be done again. After the belt is installed and the tensioner pin has been released, be sure to crank the engine over by hand a few times at least to make sure the timing marks line up at TDC each time.
During the final inspection, it is a good idea to watch how the belt rides on the cam gears and tensioner; use a mirror if you need to inspect the backside of the gear. Did You Know: The most common cause of a tripped cam sensor code, according to a belt manufacturer, is the misalignment between the rear cam gear and timing belt. A DTC can be triggered with the cam gear being one tooth advanced or retarded. Engine: Improving Turbocharger Longevity.
